General Lodge Information
General Information about Ai Aiba Lodge:
- The lodge is owned by two private families
- Building started in February 2004
- Opened in August 2004
- The farm was previously a cattle farm, today only guest farm
- Water is supplied from a bore hole; 130m deep
- Connected to the national power supplier of Namibia
- Annual average rainfall: 180mm
- Small rain season Oct-Nov; main rain season Jan-Apr
- Size ca. 5600ha; surrounded by a game proof fence
- Natural game and animals stock: Kudu, Springbok, Oryx, Damara Dik Dik, Common Duiker, Klipspringer, Mountain Zebra, Eland, Giraffe, Jackal, Leopard, Brown Hyena, Warthog, Aardwolf, Aardvark, Bat eared Fox, Genet, Porcupine, Rock Hyrax , Springhare, various birds (some endemic) and occasionally a snake or a scorpion
- No hunting on our premises, game meat is supplied by a hunting farm
- Interesting plants (some endemic) can be seen (some trees and bushes show numbers, which is for identifying purpose, the identifying list is available at the reception)
- Fresh products are bought in Omaruru once in a week, dry/ frozen goods and alcohol are supplied from Windhoek
- The Lodge is situated 1200m above sea level
- The name of the Lodge comes from the Damara/ Nama language and means: someone, who’s leading the way; someone, who’s showing the path into the future
- The employees are mainly from the Damara tribe
- The lodge is open throughout the year
- Coldest temperature in winter +/-0 degree Celsius
- In summer the temperatures can reach up to 42 degree Celsius
- Climate in general is comfortable due to low humitidy (+/-15%)
- The rock formations around the Lodge are of granite
- The Lodge is situated on the north western side of the Erongo Mountains, a 130 million year old ruin of a volcano
